About us

The Northam Choral Society is a charity recognised by HMRC for Gift Aid purposes with reference number XT18388.

We sing under the able leadership of our Musical Director, Malcolm Pike and accompanist Chris Beechy.

The Northam Choral Society was first mentioned in the North Devon Journal of 17th November 1859. It mentions the formation of an Evening School and that a ‘choral society, consisting of the village choir, and young men and women who can sing by note, has likewise been formed for the practice of good secular and sacred music.

The Choral Society still aims to sing good secular and sacred music and is open to all those who can ‘sing by note’, although no audition is required.

We are a mixed group who sing music in four part harmony (soprano, alto, tenor and bass), meeting once a week to practice for concerts twice a year.
